Berkshire Lyric presents The Holly and the Ivy, the first of their three 2023 Christmas Concerts on Friday December 8. The choral program will take place at 7:30 at St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church on Briggs Ave in Pittsfield.
The featured work will be the Vivaldi Magnificat. accompanied by a chamber orchestra. Traditional and contemporary a cappella carols by Hassler, Bruckner, Lauridsen, and Ola Gjeilo will take advantage of the splendid acoustics of this large gothic church. The 80 voice Berkshire Lyric most recently sang the Brahms German Requiem at Seiji Ozawa Hall Tanglewood. They will be joined by Lyric’s young women’s ensemble Melodious Accord and by soloists Lily Lothrop, Madeline Caruso, Rich Geiler and John Demler. The concert is under the direction of artistic director and conductor Jack Brown and assisted by Joe Rose at the pipe organ.
Tickets are $20, will be sold online and at the door, with children and students 18 and under admitted for free. Advance purchases can be made through the Berkshire Lyric website or member singers.
